Mgazi and I were fooling around with the kids’ Hello Kitty Magic 8 Ball, asking it dumb questions.
“Will we have cheese with dinner?” I asked.
Hello Kitty answered, “Could be.”
Mgazi was tickled so I kept going. “Is Mommy super duper extra good looking?”
I winked at Mgazi and pressed Hello Kitty’s red bow. The answer cube went spinning and stopped on “No!”
What? What? I protested loudly (and dramatically) much to Mgazi’s delight.
Zaffron heard from the other room and came running into the room. “Give me that thing” she said, and grabbed the ball from my hands. “Should you believe everything you read?” she asked.
The answer choices inside the ball spun and eventually landed on “No!”
Hello Kitty got it right, but I barely noticed.
I’ve sent my children to school without their lunches. I’ve ignored my husband for days at a time. And I can only describe my house as “clean” if I use finger quotes.
But Zaffy asked ”Should you believe everything you read?” at six-years old. I must be doing something right.
